Every now and then, The New York Times, that bastion of journalistic integrity, sinks to my level of stupidity. It was brought to my attention by not one but two of my more learned colleagues that today they ran a story about towns in England with unfortunate but hilarious names like Crapstone and North Piddle. Hilary Clinton's replacement as New York Senator? Nah. President Obama's policy on Iraq? Snore. Towns with childishly dirty names? Ding-ding-ding, we have a winner! The worst I think has to be "Fucking" in Tarsdorf, Austria. Though, "Dildo" in Newfoundland, Canada, is not far behind. On, and then there is "Intercourse" in the US.
We have a few bizarre ones here in Australia too such as "Boing Boing" in the Northern Territory, "Rooty Hill" in Sydney, and the completely politically incorrect "Blackbutt" in Queensland.
Thanks Kim! I'd like to see a sports tournament between Fucking and Intercourse. On second thought, maybe not.
