I took a very short trip to the Sarasota area of Florida last June and consulted my blogger buddy and old-time Florida aficionado Rick at Visual Ephemera for some fun sights in the area and he suggested the Gulf-front strip along the coast of St. Petersburg called Treasure Island for its retro mid-century motels and Florida-of-the-past ambiance. I only had time to walk around for about a half an hour but was able to snap a few pictures of the glorious old signs and brightly colored lodgings. It's a great place...like stepping into an old post card. Shiver me timbers!

Here's another Thunderbird Motel in Riverside California.

There's a great Thunderbrd in Savannah that has been restored too. I should of told you to see the Sea Jay Motel, it's off the beach- it has a great sign. Sadly many of the cute motels have been replaced by condos...
Davos: Great shots! Love the Indian iconography. By the way, the rest of your blog is really great too!
Rick: I think you did mention the Sea Jay but I was really pressed for time so I couldn't track it down. Lesson learned: You should never go to the beach and then catch a flight without the chance to shower in between!
