9/7/06
Departed: Sterling, Colorado
Arrived: Grand Junction, Colorado
378 miles
Drove for a good long stretch west on Interstate 70. Colorado is interesting because it has different types of geography: flat and scrubby in the east, little depressed towns few and far between. Then Denver and, bam, the Rocky Mountains. I-70 is the most beautiful interstate I've ever been on, especially as it cuts through Breckenridge, Vail and the breathtaking Glenwood Springs area. It's an engineering marvel. The speed limit is 75, rather fast for this kind of twisty mountainous highway. It's like they're DARING you to go the speed limit, punk. Not very eccentric here, but very beautiful. We settle into our motel in Grand Juction, Applebees and Seinfeld on TV.
